About Daniel Island
Daniel Island SC is a large island just 3 miles north of the Charleston Harbor. We are part of the City of Charleston and Berkeley County and have nearly 6,000 residents living in our vibrant community. Featuring an excellent location, residents can be at Atlantic coast beaches, the Charleston International Airport or downtown Charleston in just 15 minutes drive time!
With over 23 miles of rivers and creeks bordering our island, Daniel Island is a wonderful place to live, work, shop and play. Residents can fish or crab from one of several docks or from miles of shoreline, enjoy lunch or dinner at one of many restaurants, play in city parks or swim in one of three community pools.
Those who enjoy boating can launch their boats from one of two community boat ramps or store their boat in a wet slip or dry dock storage just minutes away. The new Daniel Island Marina is scheduled to open on the Wando River in 2009 offering hundreds of new wetslip and dry dock storage units for recreational boaters. Imagine fishing, skiing, tubing or just crusing in miles of rivers and creeks, the Charleston Harbor or in the Atlantic!
The Daniel Island community is comprised of neighborhoods representing different home styles, sizes and prices including Barfield, Center, Cochran, Codner's Ferry, Etiwan, Smythe and Old Landing which are on the South end of Daniel Island; the Downtown area consisting of condominiums, shops, restaurants and businesses; and Daniel Island Park which includes executive homes on the North side of the island.
Each neighborhood enompasses green space, parks, trails and neighborhood swimming pools. In addition, those residents living in Daniel Island Park have access to the Daniel Island Club; a world class private golf and tennis county club with two 18 hole championship golf courses. The Beresford Creek course was designed by Tom Fazio and the Ralston Creek Course by Reese Jones. The Ralston Creek course was ranked in the Top Ten New Courses in 2007 and one of the Top 50 in the United States.
Daniel Island is also home to the Family Circle Cup Tennis Stadium and facility which hosts the annual Family Circle Cup Women's Tennis Championship as well as AVP Professional Volleyball tournaments. The facility also hosts numerous concerts and events during the course of the year.
While part of the City of Charleston, the Daniel Island Community provides the comfort, feel and security of a small town with many amenities. The new Daniel Island K-8 Public School has received accolades over its curriculum and student achievement and the island is also home to Bishop England High- a top performing private Catholic High School.
